Students Success in Sussex Tournament!

Sevenoaks Students Competed in the annual Sussex Tournament on 15th April 2012.

For all but one of the students competing, this was their first tournament.
Despite this, each student that competed managed to gain a trophy on the day, with excellent performances delivered by all, matching and even surpassing those of much more experienced competitors.
The results from Sevenoaks Students were:

Hannah Thomas - Girls Cadet Kumite - 1st
Seth Harrison - Boys Cadet Kumite - 1st, Cadet Kickboxing - 2nd
Ryan Reeves - Junior (11-14yrs) Kickboxing - 1st
Alina Vyerova - Junior (6-10yrs)) Kickboxing - 2nd, Junior Kumite - 4th

We hope to continue this success at the national tournament held in Ashford on 16th June.

Congratulations to all who took part!

Karate Jutsu Kai Makes it mark on World Stage

Karate Jutsu Kai makes its mark on the world stage.

Fighters from the Karate Jutsu Kai British Squad represented the UK at the IBK World
Cup on Saturday 10th March in Emmen, Holland. The event, held annually, sees the best
knockdown fighters from across all member nations of the IBK (International Budo Kai
Kyokushinkai) come together to compete. This year saw 70 fighters representing over 10
countries go head-to-head in gruelling full-contact knock-down karate competition.

The highlight for the British Squad was seeing young 1st Dan black belt, Billy Billham,
from Ashford Club, fight his way to take 1st place in the Semi-Contact category, aimed
specifically at developing up and coming fighters aged 16-20 years. Billy fought through
4 rounds to win the final against a heavier fighter from Russia, with a perfect spinning
back-kick to the head.

Meanwhile in the men’s full-contact category for fighters under 85kg, Danny Croft, also
from Ashford Club, took 3rd place. This was a particular achievement for Danny as a
brown belt who was making his debut in the national squad; this was his first full-contact
competition. In the women’s category, Ellie Murphy, from Wimbledon club, came in 4th
place behind a tough line-up of German, Russian and Suisse women.

This success comes from the hard and consistent training promoted by the Karate Jutsu
Kai style, which finds its roots in traditional Okinawan karate systems, promoting mental
and physical toughness. To find more details of your local dojo, where new members are
always welcomed, visit www.karatejutsukai.co.uk and select “dojos”.

Shihan Cliff and Sempai Matt complete first 13miles!

Sempai Matt and Shihan Cliff have completed the Eastbourne half marathon whilst battling the wind and rain down by the sea.

This is the first run of their challenge. Still to go is the Hastings half marathon and Sussex Full marathon all in less than a month!

They are competing this challenge in order to raise funds for Demelza Childrens hospice, and also to support the Sussex Karate Championships taking place on Sunday April 15th and being hosted by Shihan Cliffs Hailsham Club.

Donations can be made here http://www.justgiving.com/Clifford-Bolt and any amount, no matter how small will help!

They are both looking forward to the coming challenge, especially the Full marathon (a distance they have never run before!) but know its going to be really tough!

Thanks,

Matt
