Grading Success!

Sevenoaks club celebrate success at the recent Association grading.

A total of 10 Sevenoaks club members took part in the recent Association grading lead by our Founder, Kancho Creton, 9th Dan.
All students trained hard to prepare themselves, and this showed on the day with all passing their respective grades and advancing to the next level across the whole range from 10th kyu to 4th kyu.
Many thanks to Sempai Ross and Sempai Harry for preparing the junior students, some of which it was their first grading!

Weald Tournament Results

Members of Sevenoaks KJK competed at the Weald Tournament yesterday.

Events consisted of Karate fighting, kickboxing and kata, and we had representation across all disciplines.

After some fantastic fights, and huge improvements from our competitors we came away with the following:

Matt - 2nd Kata & 3rd Karate

Ellie - 1st Kata & 1st Karate

Harry - 1st Karate & 2nd Kickboxing

Hannah - 1st Karate & 1st Kata

Ryan - 1st Kickboxing

Katie - 3rd Karate

Also competing were Ross in the Kata in which he unfortunately came up against Ellie in the round, and Ed in the Kickboxing.

Ed was up against a 6ft6 (at only 14years old!) competitor who went on to win the event.

Thanks to Ross for coaching the competitors throughout the day, particularly Ed and Katie for whom this was their first experience at a competition.

KJK Triumph at German Open!

Members of the KJK squad competed at the 12th German Open (http://www.kyokushin-open.com/) on Saturday 29th September.

The tournament attracted competitors from as far afield as Spain, Pakistan and Russia.

After a tough day of full contact sparring, and competitive kata categories KJK members came away with the following excellent results.

Kata (womens) - Ellie Murphy - 2nd

Kata (mens) - Matt Bolt - 1st (Also awarded a set of swords which some of you have seen for "Best Kata")

Kumite (womens -60kg) - Ellie Murphy - 3rd

Kumite (mens -70kg) - Matt Bolt - 2nd

Kumite (mens +80kg) - Ben Robinson - 2nd & Danny Croft - 3rd

Also competing for the first time was Barry Greensides (mens -80kg) who fought well against an experience opponent who was the eventual winner.

Everyone agreed it was a fantastic experience, and thank the squad instructors, Sensei Alan Miller and Shihan Cliff Bolt for their invaluable input and training.

Strength and Conditioning Course Going Well!

The 6 week strength and conditioning course is around half way though and is going well.

The victims/participants are enjoying the intense training style, and already starting to feel the benefits!

Fantastic Association SummerCamp!

We have returned from another fantastic association summercamp out in Sonderborg, Denmark.

As always, instruction was top notch, and was delivered by Kancho Bernard Kreton, 9th Dan, as well as being supported by the associations most senior grades, from countries including England, Scotland, Wales, Thailand, and Australia!

The week focussed on stancework, and the introduction of the new judo elements of the syllabus.

At the end of the week, was the grading, which as always was tough and emotional!.
Notable grades achieved and awarded include:

Dai Shihan John Wilson (England Chief Instructor) - 7th Dan

Sensei's Simon and Sarah (Northiam, Tenterden and Cranbrook) - 3rd Dan

Sempai Clare (Rye) - 2nd Dan

Sempai's Barry (Ashford), Oliver (Denmark), and Ollie (Eastbourne & Hailsham)- 1st Dan.

There were also many others, and it was fantastic to be a part of!
Congratulations to all who took part!

Following the camp, the Australian members who had travelled over 13,000miles to train blessed the Sevenoaks club with their presence the following Monday. Thanks to all of them for coming and joining in the training, we look forward to seeing you all again!

Club Success at National Tournament!

Members of Sevenoaks KJK represented the club in the association National tournament last Saturday in Ashford.

There were representation from not only England, but also Wales, Scotland and Denmark.

The Sevenoaks club performed fantastically well, despite coming up against many more experienced competitors. It was a real pleasure to witness some of our juniors compete for the first time!

The club earned 12 medals overall, and with only 9 competitors. This puts us 2nd overall in the medals table, and i believe this gives us the most per competitor! Ashford, despite having 52 competitors (over half the total number) didn't not earn one per person. Quality, not Quantity!

Club results were (in grade order):

• Sempai Matt: 3rd Kumite, 2nd kata
• Sempai Ellie: 1st kumite, 3rd kata, 1st kickboxing
• Hannah: 1st kumite
• Jessica: 3rd kumite, 3rd kata
• Jackson: 2nd kumite
• Alina: 1st kickboxing
• Seth: 3rd kumite
• Ryan: 2nd kickboxing

Many thanks to all the parents who came to support and survived the whole day!

Also thanks to Harry, the new Thursday night junior instructor, who despite having to pull out due to injury was constantly supporting, coaching, and organising the junior members.

New Junior Class Now Open!

The new Junior Class starts on Thursday 31st May.


Location: Kikodo Centre, Sevenoaks (See www.karatejutsukai.com/sevenoaks for more details)
Time: Thursday 6-7pm

Age range accepted: 7-16yrs

No previous experience is required, as instruction caters for all levels, from novice through to Black Belt.
Your first session is FREE!

For current students, training twice per week will significantly enhance their progress, both technically and physically.

All the instructors look forward to welcoming people to this new class.
